About Cumming First United Methodist Preschool
Welcome to Cumming First United Methodist Preschool, or CFUMP, as we affectionately call ourselves! We are proud to be one of the most well-known private, Christian-based preschools in Forsyth County.
Founded in 1972, CFUMP has grown to become one of the oldest and largest preschools in the area. We are committed to partnering with parents to provide children with the very best in early childhood education, nurturing them academically, physically, socially, and spiritually.
We serve over 200 children, ages 1–6, on a daily basis from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. We follow the Safe Sanctuary policies as set forth by the United Methodist Church, ensuring that two teachers are always present with each class for the safety and security of our children.

Our Preschool Board
Our Preschool Board meets bi-monthly to provide spiritual support, financial guidance, and business advice to ensure the continued success of CFUMP. The board includes CFUMC members, preschool parents (past and present), and church/preschool staff members.

Our Curriculum

At CFUMP, we offer a Christian-centered, play-based curriculum that focuses on the holistic development of each child. Our programs are designed to build a strong academic, social, emotional, and spiritual foundation, encouraging children to grow into independent and curious learners. Below is an overview of our age-appropriate curriculum for each group:
-
Parent's Morning Out (1-2 Years Old)
Our Parent’s Morning Out program is a faith-based, nurturing environment where toddlers explore, create, and play. Activities include storytime, Bible stories, music, arts & crafts, PE, and outdoor play. This program helps toddlers develop independence, social skills, and creativity.
-
Terrific Twos
In the 2-year-old program, children explore basic academic concepts like colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. Through a combination of play-based and teacher-directed activities, they begin to develop social skills, verbal communication, and fine motor skills. Our PE and Music enrichment programs enhance the curriculum, promoting physical coordination and cognitive development.
-
Thrilling Threes
All 3-year-olds must be potty trained by the start of the school year. At this age, children develop foundational skills that prepare them for Pre-K. Key areas include:
Reading Skills: Opposites, basic color and letter recognition.
Language Skills: Verbal expression and communication
Fine Motor Skills: Tracing, lacing, using scissors, and holding a pencil
Social Skills: Sharing, taking turns, and developing independence
Math Skills: Recognizing basic shapes, sorting, counting 0-10 -
Fabulous Fours (Pre-K 4)
Our Pre-K program is designed to prepare children for Kindergarten by providing a strong academic foundation, while nurturing emotional and developmental growth. Children learn letters, numbers, and basic academic concepts, while also gaining independence and responsibility. They participate in a mix of individual, small group, and large group activities.
-
Young Fives
This program is ideal for children with late birthdays or those who need more time to develop before entering Kindergarten. Young 5s focus on enhancing handwriting, sight words, small group activities, and individual needs in a hands-on, fun environment. It’s a bridge program between Pre-K and Kindergarten.
-
Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten program offers a full day of education in a half-day format, with a low student-to-teacher ratio for more personalized attention. Our curriculum emphasizes Saxon Phonics, Saxon Math, and comprehensive learning across reading, writing, science, and social studies. Students also enjoy weekly PE, computer, and music classes, as well as unique events like Science Camp, pumpkin carving with dads, and more.
-
Specials
Our program includes Physical Education (PE) and Music classes for all age levels:
PE: Game-based activities help develop motor skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities in a fun and engaging way.
Music: Children reinforce academic skills through music, dancing, and instruments, fostering cognitive, social, and motor development.
