About Cumming First United Methodist Church

Cumming First United Methodist Church seeks to be a place of love and reconciliation for all people without exception. We welcome you to this page of our website and look forward to a time when we can welcome you in person.

Who we are

Cumming First United Methodist Church (CFUMC) is a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive congregation where all means all. CFUMC is a member congregation of the United Methodist Church and has been designated an Anchor Church in the North Georgia United Methodist Conference, welcoming those seeking a UMC after facing church disaffiliation. We are an LGBTQ-affirming church, treating all individuals with love, respect, and acceptance as valued members of our community.

We are proud to be a Lighthouse Congregation within the United Methodist Church, committed to being a beacon of hope, love, and transformation. Through inclusive worship, compassionate outreach, and a focus on spiritual growth, we strive to reflect God's light to all people. As a Lighthouse Congregation, we are dedicated to making a positive impact, welcoming everyone, and serving those in need, all while growing together in faith and discipleship.

We are committed to spreading the gospel by following John Wesley’s words: “Do all the good we can, by all means we can, in all the ways we can, to all the people we can, as long as ever we can.” We serve both our congregation and the Cumming/Forsyth community through various ministries. Our campus is busy throughout the week with children in preschool, Bible studies, youth activities, and the Food Pantry. In the evenings, we host concerts and events from local schools and artists.

On Sundays, you can participate in Sunday School and enjoy classic or modern worship services. We offer ministry opportunities for all ages, year-round.

At CFUMC, you’ll find a place to worship, serve, and be part of a loving community.

Baptism

Baptism, one of the two sacraments in the United Methodist Church, acknowledges what God has already done for us. At CFUMC, we baptize individuals of all ages, including infants, youth, and adults. Our pastors will meet with you to help you understand and accept the sacrament.

Baptisms are typically performed during corporate worship, using sprinkling, though pouring and immersion are also options.

 FAQs

  • We won’t ask you to stand up or say anything. We ask everyone attending to sign in on an attendance pad. This is so we can know who you are and can welcome you during the coming week with an email, phone call, or letter, depending on the information you share with us.

  • We encourage parents of young children to attend worship service with their children. This begins the good habits of attending worship services at an early age. If you choose, we have a wonderful nursery and children’s worship time.

  • Each Sunday you will find greeters to welcome you and answer any question you might have as you enter worship.

  • You will find that the services are clearly guided by the worship leaders aided by both printed and projected directions. We will be so glad to have you and will have no worry about whether you are “doing it right.”

  • You are welcome to participate in ministries that are meaningful for you whether you are a member or not. We will look forward to welcoming you as a member when you are ready to become a member.

  • Believe us, this is why we are here! We will meet you where you are and celebrate with you as you grow. People come to us in all stages of their life and we have entry points for every comfort level.
