Family Promise

A Call to Action for Cumming First United Methodist Church!!

We have been blessed to become a part of the interfaith community of Forsyth County churches to serve homeless children and their families through Family Promise. During this school year identified homeless children will now have a safe place to stay. Our church has been selected to be the first church on this circuit to welcome these special guests. We may be serving a few families as soon as the week of September 4th-11th. We will participate four times during the year for one week at a time.

We need your help soon! There will be a training session on the evening of Monday, July 11th, in the Family Life Center. All who would like to become a part of this special team serving these homeless families are asked to attend this training by Family Promise.

Who do we need?
Set Up and Tear Down Crew:
6-10 strong men and women to prepare the downstairs of the Youth House. This involves moving furniture, containers and preparing beds in the sleeping quarters.

Meal Hosts:
2-3 needed each evening to provide a meal, stay, eat and have fellowship with the families

Grill Master:
1- On the Saturday evening before the families leave we would like to provide a cookout.

2- On Saturday morning you might like to prepare pancakes and sausage for this one special breakfast of the week. Their usual breakfast fare during the week will be breakfast bars and fruit; things they can eat on the go as they will be leaving the Youth House each morning by 7:00 a.m. and going to the center where the children will depart for school.

Fellowship Participants:
3- After dinner you might like to read to younger children, play a game or help with homework.

Overnight Hosts:
2- We need a couple or a man and a woman to stay overnight each night

Clean up crew:
2-3 to follow behind the tear down crew to make certain the facilities are ready to be used by our youth.

This is a big, yet exciting challenge to our church. We would like a lot of volunteers so that rotation is possible. Please take this opportunity to see that our community children are provided a place of safety.
