Thank You Letter from Deborah Medearis

To the members and staff of Cumming First United Methodist Church,

As I was recently cleaning out my desk I ran across a copy of the church Newsletter dated February 9, 2003.  The article from the pastor read in part “I am very pleased to announce that as of Monday, February 3, 2003, we now have a pastoral counseling office here at the Church.  …The center will provide persons who are especially trained to do Christian counseling. Deborah Medearis will direct the work of the center and do much of the counseling. I am grateful to … the Trustees for their willingness to begin this exciting and most helpful ministry.”  As it turned out the second therapist that was added remained only a few months, but I stayed and provided all of the counseling for over 13 years.  It is for those 13 years that I wish to thank each and every one of you who supported this ministry of the church. I was privileged during my years of working here to join scores of people along their life’s sacred journey, including many who otherwise might not have been able to receive the help they needed.

I am and will always remain grateful for the gift this church gave to me.  I was not only provided space for the work I do, but many groups, organizations and individuals of the church supported this ministry monetarily.  Others of you supported my ministry with words of encouragement, prayers, referrals or seeing me yourself.  It was a joy to be a joint partner in ministry with such a kind and welcoming congregation.

Due to the growth of Cumming First United Methodist Church the office space I was occupying is needed for additional church staff.  As a result I have recently moved my ministry to a new location at Midway United Methodist Church.  I will miss being physically present at CFUMC, as it has become very comfortable and home-like for me.  I will however, always carry in my heart your graciousness and hospitality toward me.  I hope that if you or those you love are ever in need of counseling services you will remember that I am continuing my ministry nearby and would welcome an opportunity to be of service to you.

It seems that all my words are inadequate to express the deep and heart felt appreciation that I am experiencing as this season of my ministry ends. I suppose it will have to suffice for me to say once again that I am profoundly thankful.  It is my prayer that God will bless each of you in every effort you make to bring our world closer to being what God intends it to be.

With deepest gratitude,

Debra Medearis
